Tim Maier had a big night on Saturday at Running Aces, taking his first win of the night in the $7,500 Minnesota-Sired 3 year old geldings pace with Freedom Reigns (by Up Front Brad) in a new life's mark of 1:55 for owners Janice Molgaard & Nancy Jenson of Iowa and harness racing trainer Brady Jensen. He paid $5.40 to win.
Maier picked up his next win with his trainee Rock n Row,(1:56.4 life's mark) owned by Denise Maier and A Piece of the Action LLC, paying $6.40, he followed that up with a win aboard another from his barn, Silver Spir who posted his 5th win of the year in 1:54.4 for owner Robin Clements, and he topped it off with another of his trainees Gorilla Monsoon in the nightcap pace, in 1:55.1 for Owners A Piece of The Action LLC. Gorilla Monsoon paid $17.40 to his backers at the window.
The Saturday Feature was the $11,000 Open Handicap Trot, and Banker Volo ($3.20) with Nick Roland aboard showed his back-class again tonight, taking his second straight gate-to-wire win, trotting in 1:56.4 tonight and delivering as the 3/5 favorite. The classy 7 year old Stallion by Yankee Glide had not raced since 2014 before making his 2016 debut at the Humbolt Iowa Fair track, then invading the ranks at Running Aces, where he has now won 2 of 3 starts. He is owned by Daniel and Jeralene Roland of Iowa. Nick Roland also scored a hat-trick on the card, winning with Dag In My Stockings ($11.00) in the 3 year old Minnesota Filly pace in an eye-opening 1:54.1 for Duane and Connie Roland, and scoring with You’llseemeupfront ($4.40) in 1:58.1, (first lifetime win) for Trainer Robert Lems and Owners Alan & Cheryl Sandbulte, of Iowa.
Driver Lemoyne (Moonie) Svendsen picked up a driving double on the card as well.
The next card of live Harness Racing at Running Aces Casino & Racetrack will go to post on Saturday night, June 11 at 6:00 pm CDT, with a carryover in the .50 cent Jackpot Pick-6 wager of $6,767.80.
