Racing Queensland (RQ) Stewards today inquired into the circumstances surrounding the analyst’s findings in respect to a urine sample taken from the harness racing pacer CORUBA RUN NZ subsequent to it competing in Race 8, the Quest Breakfast Creek Apartments Pace at Albion Park on 14 December 2013.
The Queensland Government Racing Science Centre reported the presence of Levamisole in the urine sample taken from CORUBA RUN NZ. Racing Analytical Services Limited confirmed the presence of Levamisole in the referee portion of the sample.
Today evidence was taken from the trainer of CORUBA RUN NZ, Mr. Gary Bond, who explained the circumstances leading up to the relevant race, the husbandry practices employed by stable employees, and the possible explanation for the presence of the drug.
After considering the evidence provided, Mr. Gary Bond was charged pursuant to AHRR 190 (1) which reads:
A horse shall be presented for a race free of prohibited substances.
The particulars of the charge being that Mr. Bond did present CORUBA RUN NZ to race at Albion Park on 14 December 2013 when a urine sample taken from CORUBA RUN NZ was found, upon analysis, to contain a prohibited substance, namely Levamisole.
Mr. Bond pleaded guilty to the charge.
When assessing the matter of penalty, stewards took into account:
- the nature of the substance concerned
- the circumstances of the case
- the licence history of Mr. Bond which indicated previous breaches under this Rule
- the need for a penalty to serve as a deterrent to illustrate that drug free racing is of paramount importance to the integrity of Harness Racing.
Mr. Gary Bond was subsequently disqualified for a period of two years. Stewards directed that this term of disqualification be served cumulatively to a previous penalty imposed under this Rule. This term of disqualification will take effect from 19 December 2014 and expire on 19 December 2016.
Stewards directed under Rule 195 that CORUBA RUN NZ be disqualified from its 1st placing at Albion Park on 14 December 2013 and the placings amended to
1st Glory Jasper
2nd Im Young Tommy
3rd Sir Swinger
4th In Default
All other placegetters were amended accordingly.
Mr Bond was advised of his rights of appeal
