German Derby elims at Berlin Mariendorf

Today began the main harness racing action leading to next weekend’s German Trotting Derby, preceeded by the annual Yearling Auction the prior day. Four Derby eliminations for colts took place today, along with the Charlie Mills Memorial. Each carried at purse of €20,000 and was contested over 1900 meters autostart.

A summary of the elims follows. The Brandenberg Cup elimination went to 1.3/1 Fiobano (3m Abano As-Fiona KO) for trainer/driver Thorsten Tietz to remain unbeaten in six starts this year and for the career. Stall Pretty Woman is the owner. Guccio Fortuna (3m Muscles Yankee-She’s A Flirt) was second for Maik Esper and Muscle Boy As (3m Muscle Hill-Zelda Per) took third for Gerhard Mayr.Fiobano was clocked in 1.14.47kr.  German Derby Elim - Fiobano, Thorsten Tietz replay  follows

The Florida Eis Cup elim went to 1.3/1 Dreambreaker (3mOffshore Dream-Brooke Boko) for driver Michael Nimczyk and trainer Arnold J. Mollema. This winner scored for the second time in 2016 with four placings in six starts. Gigant Greenwood (3m Mr. Pine Chip-Urielle Kievitshof) was second for Stefan Schoonhoven. Third went to Mr. Shorty (3m Here Comes Joey-Escape) with Thorsten Tietz driving. Thewinner was clocked in 1.13.37kr. The Estrel Hotel Berlin elim went to even money choice Geronimo T (3m Uranus-Zita Jones) for driver Thorsten Tietz for trainer Hans Joachim Tipke. Muscle Scott (3m Muscle Mass-What A Spirit) was second for Robin Bakker and trainer Paul Hagoort, with third to Laskari (3m Tschagga-Dodoma) with Joseph Verbeeck aboard for trainer Maik Esper. The Movenpick Hotel Berlin German Derby elim was won by Orlando Jet (3m Orlando Vici-Chicolina) for trainer/driver Rudolf Haller and Stall Team Neuhof. Off at 3.6/1 this one recorded his fourth win in five starts plus one placing and was timed in 1.12.89kr. Jauni (3m Quite Easy-Niutty Diamant) was next in this test for trainer/driver Thorsten Tietz. Third was Comanche Moon (3m Love You-Norwegian Dream) with Torbjorn Jansson driving for legendary trainer Stig H. Johansson. This elim replay follows -Orlando Jet, Rudolf Haller

Othello Victory Wins the Charlie Mills Memorial

Aged class masters battled in the Charlie Mills Memorial, with the field including the 2015 winner Vrai Lord (1.12.6kr) and 2014 winner Dream Magic BE (1.13.2kr). This year was a different result as 3.4/1 Othello Victory (5g Diamond Way-Victorya Blue) was victorious for driver Rudolf Haller and trainer Gregor Krenmayr. This comeback story now has three wins and a placing in five 2016 starts after not racing last year. 51/1 New Generation (7m Oscar Schindler SL-Nuke It Linsay) was second for Heinz Wewering, also the trainer. 8/1 Dream Magic BE (7m Dream Vacation-Dantesca Cla) ended third for Josef Franzi Jr. and fourth was 17/1 Vrai Lord (7m Meaulnes du Corta-Orelady) with trainer Gerhard Mayr driving. The 9/10 favorite King Of The World was unplaced. The winner was timed in 1.13.47.
