Yannick Gingras was victorious at Sovalla on Elitloppet Day

Yannick Gingras started his Elitloppet Day in fine fashion with a rallying victory in the first race, the Elitloppet Drivers Match.

Gingras made a three-wide move with Spark Rick (6g Com Hector-Rafaela Rick-Tap In) around the last turn to sweep to the lead and then held off hard charging 7/1 odds Mr. Looba Looba (5g Fill V-Singlet-Supergill) by a head.

Oystein Tjomsland drove the second place finisher. Fredericks Laukko and reinsman Mika Forss ended third as 3/1 second choice and driver David Miller was fourth with Chapeau Bas. The winner, timed in a sharp 1.11.4kr over 1609 meters autostart, is co-owned by Markkanen Vartainen and recorded his third 2014 victory in five starts, this one worth 75,000SEK first money.

Gingras, on post-race interview, said the Elitloppet and Solvalla are very special coupled with the large enthusiastic crowd, similar in the US to only the Little Brown Jug experience. Driving the 8/1 odds winner, he credited the trainer's advice that his horse has a good speed brush.
