The 2013 Decron Cranbourne Cup has been won by The Gold Ace in a brilliant front-running display for harness racing trainer Belinda McCarthy.

Drawn two, Andy McCarthy shot off the arm to find the top from American Muscle with Youranut sitting parked for much of the race.

In an event which lacked any serious mid-race moves, The Gold Ace started to pull in the middle stages before McCarthy let him down off the back to apply the pressure to his rivals.

Never seriously threatened, The Gold Ace raced home in a 26.7sec third quarter before a last section of 29.3secs.

The mile rate for the 2555-metre journey was 1:58.9 with The Gold Ace charging clear by 1.7 metres from Terrorway and Im Corzin Terror.

The winner now secures a spot in the Group 1 SEW-Eurodrive Victoria Cup next week in what is expected to be a superstar field of pacers.

The other Group 1 race of the night, the Aldebaran Park Bill Collins Trotters Mile was taken by Kyvalley Blur in a deceptive finish.

With Elegant Image sprint-laning to the front, Kyvalley Blur kept grinding his way to the lead which he landed right on the winning post.

The winner rated a track record 1:59.1 with a 59.1sec last half in the short half-head win from Elegant Image and My High Expectations who sat parked in the race.
