MacDonald Stable Crushes In Sires Stakes
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A pair of trotting brothers took the lion's share of the Atlantic Sire Stakes purses Tuesday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as part of Gold Cup and Saucer week racing.
The Clare MacDonald trained and driven Mr Finlay Ridge won the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old trotters while his older brother, Mabou Ridge, found the wire first in the three-year-old Atlantic Sires Stakes trot division.
MacDonald was unhurried in the $15,780 two-year-old division with Mr Finlay Ridge leaving from the second tier. She got away fourth with her charge as Dusty Lane Milo (Driven by Adam Merner) did all the roadwork with splits of 30.3, 1:01.1 and 1:31.4 before Mr Finlay Ridge began his advance. The son of Armbro Barrister gobbled up ground in the final panel to win in 2:02.2 with Dusty Lane Milo second and A Little Go Go (Marc Campbell) finishing third.
MacDonald shares ownership of the winning trotter with Arnold Rankin of Antigonish and Ian Tate of St. Andrews, N.S.
MacDonald elected for a different strategy in the $15,400 sophomore division, leaving sharply from post 7 with Mabou Ridge to control every fraction and hold one by a-quarter-length in 1:59.3 over the hard closing Tequila Tuesday (Campbell) and Go With Her (Brodie MacPhee). Rankin has sole ownership of the Armbro Barrister – R Rocket Rachel trotter.
