Redcliffe harness racing trainer Graham White is very aware he’s facing a big challenge this weekend. But the straightshooter isn’t the type to back away from a battle.
White heads to Albion Park on Saturday night with his ‘stablestar’ Atouchagray who lines up in the Gr.1 $100,000 QBRED Triad 3yo Colts and Geldings Final.
Atouchagray has drawn gate five while favoured runners A Good Chance (3) and Allnight Raid (4) have drawn to his inside and White is unsure how to attack this race tactically.
“I was happy with the front-line draw but then I worked out that some of the key threats have drawn better which makes it a little difficult to assess. I will speak with Paul (Diebert – driver) and see what plan he has for this race.” White said.
The Royal Mattjesty – Bubby Doll colt has continued to improve this season after a pleasing rookie season last term and White is confident that he is at his peak heading into the feature event.
Atouchagray has flashed brilliance this campaign highlighted by his strong victory in the QBRED Breeders Classic consolation at Albion Park back in March.
And White is prepared to rate him among his best that he’s trained which spans many decades and includes the likes of Ima Sea Storm and Bailey Bromac who have been prolific performers at Albion Park.
“I think he’s a very good horse in the making and he’s still improving, I’ve been patient with him from the start but now it’s time to step up and make his mark because it’s a busy time of the year with all the features looming.
“The Triad has been the main target for this season and I’m expecting a good showing, it was pleasing to see him win last start in the manner in which he did and that will give him great confidence heading into this race. We missed the recent Nursery Pace series owing to a small setback (hoof abscess) so last week’s win was perfect in many ways.
“Obviously A Good Chance, Admiral Bronski and Jack Malone are going to be tough to beat but we won’t be far away. All going to plan, we’ll head to the Redcliffe Derby next week before looking at other features in the coming month.”
White prepares a team of ten pacers at the Redcliffe Showground’s which features a track no bigger than 500m in circumference and is situated just five minutes from the Redcliffe Paceway.
