The Grand Criterium de Vitesse de la Cote d'Azur, this Sunday at Cagnes sur mer in France, has seen the field reduced to 15 from 21 engaged.
The final group will contest for 200,000e in the Gr. I International UET Masters Series event over the 1609 meters autostart course.
Sprinters in the field include the young mare Vanika du Ruel for trainer/driverand Italy's Nesta Effe, trained by Holger Ehlert. The race has a rich history of victorious females. Since 1969 the race has seen ten female winners led by five-time victor Une de Mai and single winners Roquepine, Peace Corp, Moni Maker in 2000, Vasterbo Daylight and Santa Rosa France in 2012.
The fastest win was posted in 2002 by Italy's(1.09.6kr), followed by Kasaco Phedo's 1.09.9kr in 2004. The great Ourasi won the event four times, and other North American bred winners include Gum Ball, Crowning Classic, Sea Cove, and Spice Island.
