The Eric Reece Memorial has been a race much sought after by Tasmania trainers and owners but when trainer Greg Scott entered his handy made Gun Filly he was realistic when he assessed her chances of winning the final.
A third in her heat secured the six-year-old mare a berth in the final but when transpired in the race in Hobart on Sunday night left Scott pleasantly surprised.
Starting at odds of almost 100-1 and with talented driver Adrian Duggan in the sulky, Gun Filly unleashed a powerful finish to grab victory in the shadows of the post.
Gun Filly hit the line with a little to spare over Divas Delight with Saloon In Sight a close-up third.
It was Gun Filly's first win in over a year and only her second career win.
