A talented full field of eight high claiming half-mile track specialists square off in Friday night’s $14,000 feature race at Maywood Park for pacers with price tags ranging from $40,000 to $50,000.

The morning line co-favorites Bronson Hall (3-1, Tony Morgan) and Mattygonne (7-2, Dale Hiteman) come off successful recent Maywood Park victories. The Bronson Hall notched his second front-end victory in 7 season tries here a week ago, while Mattygonne won here for the sixth time in 18 starts the same night when he was claimed for $40,000 by trainer John Saner for Monmouth Beach, NJ owner Sidney Korn.

While Bronson Hall, one of six horses entered for $40,000, will be hustled out from the four post, Festivus (4-1, Ryan Anderson) and Mattygonne have $50,000 tags and leave from posts seven and eight respectively.

Festivus rattled off nine Maywood Park wins in 2004 before he shipped to The Meadowlands in January. He’s gone 1-for-3 on our oval for the Joe Anderson Stable since his return.

The competitive field is rounded out with Rah N (10-1, Andy Miller), Fox Valley Whiz (8-1, Mike Oosting), Franco Sequel N (12-1, Tim Tetrick), Guest Host (5-1, Dave Magee) and Indian Territory (6-1, Jason Dillander), all accomplished half-mile pacers.

This season at Maywood Park Rah and Fox Valley Whiz have two triumphs each, while Guest Host is a four-time winner. Indian Territory has one Maywood victory and a pair of wins each on the east coast half-milers Yonkers and Freehold. Franco Sequel is making his Maywood Park season debut.

The horse too catch should again be Bronson Hall, the speedball from the Tom Harmer Stable. Driver Tony Morgan describes the five-year-old son of Cambest as: “A big bully, and once you get him fired up he’s very hard to shut down.”
