Kiwi bred Washington VC/No Doubt About It filly Dontdoubtme trained in Sunraysia by Shayne Cramp, made the long trip down from Mildura to Tabcorp Park Melton on Friday with happy results, as she was victorious in winning the $25,000 Harness Breeders (Vic) Gold Chalice for three year old fillies over 2240 metres.

Unbeaten in three Australian starts to date, Dontdoubtme had little trouble pouncing on the lead from gate three, with reinsman Nathan Jack well aware of her capabilities allowing her to bowl along at her leisure.

Careering away on the final bend, Dontdoubtme in quarters of 29.3, 30, 28.2 and 29.1 after a lead time of 48.3, scored virtually untouched by 11.3 metres in advance of another Kiwi bred in My Bella Starr which raced in the open before dropping down to follow the winner on straightening when pole marker Lies in the trail galloped for no reason when looking likely to fill a place. This allowed the Glen Douglas trained and driven Somedreamsomewhere (four back the markers) to fill third place after making the home turn very wide.

Raced by a large group of owners including long time harness participants Dawn Leppard and Gordon Bubb, Dontdoubtme returned a mile rate of 1-58.4.

Several champion fillies have won this prestigious classic in the past and gone on to much bigger and better things.
