The Eliminations for Hawthorne’s inaugural Night of Champions are in the books and the top earners for every category have been determined.

The Finals for these Series races take place on Friday, August 5 and each of the Finals carries an estimated purse $100,000

On Friday night (July 29), the third leg’s of the last two Series, the Enemy At The Gate and the Creative Lass, were contested.

In the first race of the evening, and the first division of the Enemy At The Gate, I Can Only Imagine, part of the favoured entry, came away with a one-length victory and the top earnings for the 3-Year-Old Pacers who were Conceived and Foaled in Illinois.

I Can Only Imagine, driven by Tony Morgan and trained by Tom Harmer, was the second big winner of the evening for owner Michael Polansky and trainer Tom Harmer.

An hour or so earlier, Pujols, when demolished the track record for all 2-Year-Old Pacers ever at Hawthorne, simply toyed with the field at the Meadowlands, in an Elimination for the $400,000 Woodrow Wilson next week and stamped himself as the one to beat in that race.

I Can Only Imagine covered the mile in 1.52.3. He paid $3.20 as part of the favoured entry.

In the first division of the Creative Lass, favoured She Likes It All definitely liked it enough and paced her way to victory, narrowly holding off the fast-closing Studio Nine.

This Paul Stafford trainee, owned by Jayne Cummins and driven by Tim Tetrick, got the mile in 1.53.4 and paid $5.00 as the favourite.

Brianna Joy went off as the 1-2 favourite in her division of the Creative Lass, for 3-Year-Old filly pacers Conceived and Foaled in Illinois but she expended too much energy getting to the lead and she tired in the stretch.

Instead it was Fox Valley Leona, with Tony Morgan in the bike for owners Clara Stable, Michael Polansky, and Neil Silverman, who finished with a flourish.

This Tom Harmer charge had a two and a quarter lead when they crossed the wire in 1.52.2 and as the second choice, paid $6.20 for the win.

Blue Apache was the lone upsetter in the Series races on Friday night.

In the second division of the Creative Lass, she made a great move soon after the half and had a clear lead by the time they crossed the three quarter pole.

She won the race by a 1 ½ lengths for owners Darcy Pletcher and Josephine Louridas and trainer Darcy Pletcher. Tim Tetrick was in the bike.
