Horsham Harness Racing Club officials are "over the moon" with the quality and number of entries received for Sunday afternoon's gala Wimmera Mail-Times Horsham Cup meeting.
"The big names we'd hoped for will all be there and the stage is set for a feast of Fabulous racing," said Club President Justin Lane. "We've been blessed with a weather forecast of 24 degrees and now we have the Aussie legend Smoken Up set to clash with Kiwi champ Mah Sish , our classy "local hope" Abettorpunt and prospective grand circuit contenders Im Corzin Terror, Keayang Steamer & Magical Telf ."
One that Lane didn't mention is the family's own "wild card" in the $60,000 Group 2 Cup, their homebred gelding National Service, which ran a mighty race behind Smoken Up in last week's blistering Ballarat Lightning Mile.
Lane's "big 3" need no introductions to harness fans. The 11yo evergreen superstar Smoken Up is the winner of more than 70 races and $3.5 million in stakemoney, Mah Sish boasts 14 victories from 41 starts and a bank of $771,000 and Abettorpunt with 21 wins from just 51 outings for $306k is set to take the next big step.
"An added bonus will be the appearance of the trotter Blitzthemcalder in the Horsham Trotters Cup," said Lane. "The 4yo stallion has "rockstar looks" and oozes ability, as his record of 20 wins from 31 starts and $356,000 testifies. He could well be strutting his stuff on the world stage this time next year."
So don't miss the chance to see the trots at their absolute best. Pack the picnic hamper and chairs, bring along the family, enjoy the racing and the plethora of off-track entertainment, competitions and give aways.
Horsham Is Hot To Trot.
