The richest and fastest Australian bred son of Art Major, For A Reason, will be standing at Yirribee Pacing Stud this upcoming harness racing breeding season.
Having already sired a Group One winner in his first crop of foals, 'Frank The Tank' looks set for a big season ahead.
After spending a season at stud, For A Reason returned to the racetrack and went on to win the Victoria Cup, the Queensland Pacing Championship and also finish third-placed in both the Miracle Mile and Inter Dominion.
And this same trait of determination has been seen in his foals including last month's Alabar NSW Breeders Challenge Final winner, Conviction, according to trainer Steve Turnbull.
"He is up there with the best two-year-olds I've ever trained," Steve said.
"He is extremely quick out of the gate and has a big heart."
Out of For A Reason's first crop, which are now two-year-olds, he had 33 live foals for 10 starters and three winners all in sub 2:00.
Former co-trainer and driver Luke McCarthy is looking forward to seeing more of his progeny race.
"Dad (John McCarthy) has a gelding by For A Reason called The Democrat and he has already won two races in seven starts rating 1:55 in each," McCarthy said.
"Right from when we broke Frank in I said this colt is a motor car.
"He was the best looking yearling I'd seen and his great attitude made him the superstar that he was not to mention his great gait – he never wore a knee boot!
"He had so many great wins . . . his four Derby wins were very special especially the New South Wales Derby when he sat three wide without cover from the 1000 metre mark and outstayed them.
"His Victoria Cup was an amazing win beating horses like Beautide, Christen Me and Smoken Up . . . it was one of the highlights of my career.
"People always mention For A Reason's super speed but his staying capabilities where just as good as he showed in the New Zealand Cup where he missed the start, sat three wide to the breeze from the 1400 metres to outstay Terror To Love and it took the champion mare Adore Me to beat him.
"He was just a well mannered horse with an amazing attitude – a pleasure to train and drive."
Breeding to For A Reason in NSW your foal could be eligible for the $500 Colonial Stallion Bonus, the True Blue Bonus plus the other Breeders Challenge bonuses in place.
