Harness Racing New South Wales exchanged contracts today for a 40-hectare parcel of land at North Wagga Wagga which will see harness racing in the Riverina enter into a new era.

The land, purchased through the Wagga Wagga City Council at a favourable price, has had a Development Application and other relevant documents lodged by HRNSW.

The new Wagga project will follow in a similar vain to Bathurst and includes a 1070-metre track, stable complex and clubhouse.

HRNSW chairman Rex Horne stated the venture it is an exciting time for the local industry.

“Aside from prizemoney increases in the Riverina commencing this season, a new complex is very important for this region of business,” Horne said. “Ideally we would like to start work on the complex in March 2015 and be complete by December the same year.

“It’s not a long time by any means and we still need the council DA approval. The Board’s infrastructure plan is now taking shape, especially in the country. Once completed in all regions it will further demonstrate the leading position of New South Wales in Australasia.”
