Harness Racing New South Wales has been raising the awareness of Ovarian Cancer since the beginning of February with all female drivers wearing teal pants.
The campaign finished on Saturday night and HRNSW is proud to announce female participants have raised more than $48,740 for the Women's Cancer Foundation Ovarian Cancer Institute.
Between February 1 and March 12 HRNSW had
* 68 individual female drivers
* 712 total drives during the period
* 29 individual drivers won a race (42% of female drivers won a race during the campaign)
* 90 driven winners during the period
* 17 training winners for Belinda McCarthy during the period.
HRNSW and TAB donated $200 each for every winner driven by a reinswoman and with the 90 winners $36,000 was raised.
Belinda McCarthy trained 17 winners.
Her donation of $100 for every one of her winners that carried the WCF silks was match by HRNSW resulting in a further $3,400 raised.
WCF Ambassador Emma Turnbull took her involvement in the awareness campaign even further by enlisting 73 personal sponsors.
Emma drove six winners in total and 72 of her sponsors agreed to donate $20 every time she drove a winner.
Her 73rd sponsor – Westfund donated $100 for each winner and doubled the donation when she drove the winner of a race they sponsored
Therefore Emma raised a further $9,340 for WCF and also attracted plenty of media interest with her participation as an ambassador.
HRNSW would like to congratulate all of the female drivers who participated and look forward to working with the WCF again next year.
