Exciting harness racing youngster Blue Moon Rising has been ruled out of the upcoming New South Wales Derby.

With heats of the Blue Riband to take place at Tabcorp Park Menangle's second night of the Sky Racing Carnival of Miracles next Saturday, Blue Moon Rising will be in the paddock instead of at the track.

Trainers Shane and Lauren Tritton decided to pull the pin on the remainder of the gelding's three-year-old season following his 11th in the Victoria Derby at Melton last weekend.

"Blue Moon Rising will go for a long and well-earned spell after pulling up a little jaded after his trip to Melbourne . . . 12 out of 17 isn't bad," the Tritton Team tweeted.

And after winning 12 of his 17 starts, connections have decided next year's Chariots Of Fire will be the aim for the son of Santanna Blue Chip.

"He will most likely miss the rest of the three-year-old season," Shane said.

"He has never had a decent break and will be aimed at the Chariots next year.

"He hasn't sustained an injury we are just giving him time to develop.

"We may have raced him a little too long as a three-year-old so hopefully we give Blue Moon Rising a better chance to develop.

"He is without doubt one of the fastest horses I've trained but needs to mature physically to be able to utilise that speed."

Tritton also admitted Blue Moon Rising reminds him of his other pacer Yayas Hot Spot which finished second to Bling It On in the A.G. Hunter Cup at Melton last Saturday.

Yayas Hot Spot will be aimed at the Miracle Mile qualifying sprints at Menangle next Saturday night.
