"I haven't had much luck with the barrier draws but like everyone says the barrier is just where they start from," Thompson said.
"David Hercules has pulled up very well from his run on Friday night at Gloucester Park, he had a light jog and a swim on Monday, was very relaxed and will be ready to race on Saturday night."
No stranger to travelling to the eastern states Thompson has no worries with David Hercules handling the trip to Sydney should he qualify for the Inter Dominion final.
"The horse has spent plenty of time at my brother's (trainer) place in Melbourne and he has settled in very well each time we have gone there."
"The only time I took him to Sydney it was a different story, I decided to make it into a real hit and run mission and drove up on the day of the race but it didn't suit him at all and he didn't race well as a result."
Thompson has been in contact with Sydney trainerand has arranged for David Hercules to stay at his stables should he get to Sydney.
"I've knownfor a very long time and he is a fantastic bloke and that's where we will be staying should he run first or second in Saturday night's heat."
"If we do qualify I'm unsure whether to race him the week before the grand final or wait until the Tuesday before and have a trial, that might be all a waste of time if things don't go right on Saturday night so we will just have to wait and see."
