Western Australia trainer Michael Brennan won a gold medal for Australia at the Athens Olympics in 2004 as a member of the Mens’ Hockey Team and is hoping to add a Miracle Mile to his trophy cabinet when Im Victorious competes in Australia’s premier sprint on Saturday night at Tabcorp Park.

Brennan has already had some massive highs in harness racing with Im Victorious including a win in the WA Derby but acknowledges the thrill of the race track and the hockey field are worlds apart.

“The feelings are completely different, you feel the same elation when you have success but when I played hockey I was always in control, I knew what had to be done to be successful.

“In harness racing as soon as the horse walks onto the track it is out of my hands and it is all up to the driver, it is totally different to be relying on someone else to experience that winning feeling.”

Brennan represented Australia over an eight year period, playing his first game in 1996 before retiring after winning the gold medal in 2004 and coincidently has drawn barrier eight in his first crack at the Miracle Mile.

“I must admit I was disappointed after the draw but as I keep telling myself the barrier is only where they start from and not where they finish, I’m really happy with how he has travelled across and I’m expecting him to run a very good race.”

"He had a trial at Menangle on Tuesday to top him off and I’m hoping he can do Western Australia proud by running a great race on Saturday night.”

Smoken Up is the horse to beat according to Brennan after he drew barrier one.

“He is a super horse, his win at Menangle on the weekend was great, he is going to be in front and is going to take a lot of running down, I’m just excited to be in the race and to be competing against the best.”
