Miracle Mile winning trainer/driverhas timed everything to the minute with his star pacer Beautide and with the Inter Dominion heats just over a fortnight away his campaign looks on track. Beautide returned to the track on Saturday night for the first time since finishing fourth in the Victoria Cup and blew out the 'cobwebs' with an impressive 1:53.1 victory.
"The race on Saturday night was perfect for Beautide, it was exactly what I was looking for and his final half would have been pretty slick so everything is on track for the Inter Dominion heats on February 15," Rattray said.
"Ideally I will get another nice hit-out this weekend and then he will have the two weeks before the heat and then another fortnight into the final should everything go to plan."
Beautide has been the well supported favourite for the Inter Dominion with TAB and is now the clear favourite at $4.80 with kiwi five year old Christen Me the second pick at $7.50.
"I'm not feeling any pressure going into the Inter Dominion even though he is the favourite, everything since the Miracle Mile has been targeted towards it and I am happy with Beautide's progression.
"After the Victoria Cup I was able to bring him home and give him a week off and it freshened him up nicely which I think is important because he has come a long way in such a short period of time."
Twelve months ago Rattray knew he had a nice horse but was unsure just how far he could go.
"This time last year I was thinking that I was going to have some fun with him and had a high opinion of the horse but I had no idea that he was going to continue to get better and better like he has.
"Pachacuti (stablemate) is being aimed at the Chariots Of Fire, he's definitely got the ability and he will keep on improving so it could be a very exciting Inter Dominion Grand Final Day for everyone involved with my stable if everything goes right."
