HUGE PAYOFFS BECOMING THE NORM

The road to enormous gimmick payoffs continues on the path to Thursday nights at Maywood Park. The Chicago circuit half-mile oval had longshots clicking on a regular basis again on February 8, keying more boxcar figure wagering returns.

After four consecutive carryovers Maywood Park’s Pick Five was hit last Thursday for a whopping $24,334.05. The winning numbers were 4-4-4-5-4.

Earlier in the evening the largest winning Trifecta of the young season came about in the third race when newcomer Jeff Cullipher drove No. 1 Olympias to victory at a $50.60 winning mutuel, keying the 1-6-7 Trifecta worth $17,239.80.

When no one correctly selected that third race Superfecta, $9,837.79 was the carryover to the fourth race “Super,” swelling that pool to $48,422. The winning 1-4-5-9 Superfecta paid $3,336 with the help of Voo Doo Villian popping at $27.20 with driver Brent Holland.

An indication that another mega payoff Thursday evening was forthcoming came in the very first race when Dean Magee steered Bug Boy to a victory at $20 that keyed a 1-7-2-4 Superfecta of $7,494.20.

The seventh race Super of 5-4-6-2 returned $5,091, with the winner U R Foxy ($17.80) providing the back-end of the winning 1-2-1-5 Pick Four that paid $4,166.80. Three races later Todd Warren brought home longshot Clever Street at a $64.60 winning mutuel, supplying the front-end of a 4-6-5-3 Super of $6,976.70.

Last Thursday night was capped off with a winning 4-5-4 Pick Three payoff of $4,544 on the last three races.
