Hollywood Rusty and Brad Hanners - led early and hung on well to win.

With two starters boasting win streaks, Hollywood Rusty pulled a mile surprise scoring a1:57.3 harness racing victory in the $16,000 Winners-Over trot on Thursday, March 1. Matt Kakaley also had a six-pack of winners. Brad Hanners drove Hollywood Rusty into the lead and led the remaining eight square-gaiters the rest of way to his first win of 2012.

The Andover Hall-Aurora Hall gelding profited when the race-favorite Outlaw (Matt Kakaley, a winner of four of five previous lifetime races, sustained an ankle injury and was never a factor. The four-year-old finished out-of-the-money. Hanners drove Hollywood Rusty to his personal best of 1:57.3. Do It For Annie was second in front of City Kid (Vince Copeland, third, ending a two-race in streak.

On a card dotted with longshots, Capers And Lemons, off at 17-1 scored in the $11,400 Delaware 3,4&5-Year-Old pace. Allan Davis drove the winner to his second trip to the winners circle. A Three Olives-Wiggle You Can colt, Capers And Lemons was making his first start of the year. Fearless Diablo (Matt Kakaley), the wagering favorite, was second with Princely Assets (Ross Wolfenden) third.

In addition to Matt Kakaley’s six winners, Vic Kirby won both halves of the daily double and later added another for a driving triple. Steve LeBlanc posted training double.

There is no live racing Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday post time is now 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, racing begins at 4:30 p.m. Parking and admission are free. Reservations are suggested for the Winner's Circle Restaurant 302-674-4600.
