Hanover Raceways 2011 harness racing season ends this Saturday with the Ontario Sires Stakes, as 51 two year old Filly Pacers will hit the track competing for $168,000 dollars in purse money. Because of the stakes taking place not only at Hanover but at other tracks that weekend, Hanover applied for and was approved an increase in its number of races to 14.

GM Gord Dougan says it would have been tough for local horsemen to get in to race that week, so Race Secretary Randy Rier suggested we increase our number of races.

Dougan says in order to accommodate, Hanover has also moved its first post time to 6:45pm. The final days program will also include the Win the Thrill competition where fans can pick a horse in 9th race, and if their name is drawn they’ll win an invitation to the Grassroots finals October 1st at Mohawk, and a chance to win a share of a racehorse, thanks to the Standarbredbreeders of Ontario.

Saturday is also Advantage Hanover Travel Night. 1 lucky fan will win a 3,000 dollar travel voucher courtesy of Hanover Travel, Air Transat and Nolitours.

And last but not least, Hanover has a special Guest Announcer on Saturday. Ken Warkentin from the Meadowlands will take over the microphone, will help with the awarding of the Season ending awards, and sit down for a short autograph and meet and greet session with local harness fans.

Once again post time this Saturday for Hanover’s final 2011 live card is 6:45pm.
