Harness Horsemen International's Annual Meeting begins today and will run through Dec. 8, at the Embassy Suites Resort in Deerfield Beach, Fla. Registration will be today, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., eastern, in the hotel lobby. Harness Horsemen International is comprised of harness racing horsemen's associations from throughout the United States and Canada
The HHI Executive Committee will meet today at 4 p.m. in an Embassy Suites conference room, followed by a welcome reception and cocktails, beginning at 5:30.
On Monday, Dec. 6, HHI President Gene Oldford will welcome members to the HHI General Session, that includes keynote speakers, veterinarians Dr. Larry Soma and Dr. Dean Richardson, from Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center.
Also included in the morning session are association reports and panel topics; afternoon sessions will focus on insurance, finance, legal and convention issues.
The Tuesday, Dec. 7 General Session will feature keynote speakers U.S. Trotting Association President Phil Langley and Delaware's Bill Oberle. The panel discussion will focus on the future of The Meadowlands racetrack.
The Dec. 8 General Session agenda will include keynote speaker Jay Hickey of the American Horse Council, followed by elections, committee and association reports.
HHI's annual awards banquet will be held that evening, where three men will be acknowledged for their contributions to harness racing: William A. Obertle, Jr., winner of the 2010 Dominic Frinzi HHI Person of the Year Award; Russell Williams, who will be presented the 2010 HHI Appreciation Award; and John Pawlak, who will receive the 2010 Clyde Hirt Media Award.
