Inter Dominion harness racing history was made at Gloucester Park in Perth tonight (Friday February 24) when Im The Mightyquinn convincingly won the 12th and final heat.

For the first time three unbeaten horses will contest an Inter Dominion Grand Final - in seven days. Im The Mightyquinn joined Auckland Reactor and Smoken Up as winners of all three of their heats. That has never been done before.

Im The Mightyquinn and Gary Hall Jr were very convincing tonight - so much so they deserve their Grand Final favouritism tag.

The way the 8-year-old son of Washington VC accelerated past his opponents - both on the corners and in the straights - he is going to be extremely hard to beat on his home track again next week.

Not even Kiwi hopeful Raglan (Anthony Butt) could keep up with "Quinny" when he went past him down the back straight the last time.

From that point "Quinny" merely cruised to the line - under a hold - winning by an increasing 19.2 and 30.4 metres from Raglan and Bus To Harland (Shannon Suvaljko). Hesa Buzzin and Kim Douglass were fourth.

The Gary Hall Sr trained black gelding paced the 2506 metre mobile in 3:03 (mile rate: 1:57.5). Lead time: 65.2. First quarter: 32.2. Second quarter: 29.9. Third quarter: 27.5. Fourth quarter: 28.2.

Im The Mightyquinn has now won 38 of his 83 starts and almost $2.7 million in purses.

The Grand Final field will comprise:

Auckland Reactor, Im The Mightyquinn Smoken Up, Crombie, Mr Feelgood, Lombo Navigator, Mysta Magical Mach, Can Return Fire, Raglan. Emergency: Cromac Johnny(1); Dasher VC (2).
