June 27, 2015 – It wasn’t much of a night weather wise, but several children were happy they went to the harness racing racetrack on Saturday night. In celebration of our favorite sport, and the end of school, Hanover Raceway held Hockeyville Night sponsored by Hanover Walmart. Children 13 and under wearing hockey jerseys got to enter to win take home a brand new bicycle.
The winners included Bryer Nicole Hooyenga of Durham.
Other winners included newborn Kantayah, Justin Francis of Hanover and Josh Sicard of Markdale.
On the track, Bruce Richardson, Jay Harris, and Stu Sowerby all had 2 wins each, while Terry Fritz won for the 4th time in a row in the final dash with Preppy Art. The 3 year old son of Art Colony who is owned and trained by Terry Fritz, led from start to finish in a time of 2:02.3 on a track listed as 5 seconds off due to heavy rains.
July 4th marks the start of the Country 93 Survivor handicapping contest. Fans will find a ballot in their program and are asked to pick 1 horse in each of 4 races. If all 4 finish in first, second or third place in their respective races, the fan gets to come back for the Survivor finale on August 15th for a chance at 3 great prizes including a High Definition big screen TV.
