Current Western Australian Horse-of-the-Year, James Matthew is dead. The Parsons Den gelding lost his battle with Colitis-X on Wednesday morning. He was just 3-years old. Purchased for just $7500 at the Gloucester Yearling Sale, he was trained by Peter Anderson and driven by Morgan Woodley throughout his career.

The brilliant pacer won his first 10 starts with an average winning margin of 16.8m. All-up, in less than two seasons, he won 12 of his 17 starts for $212,035.

Harnesslink ran a story yesterday (Wednesday) saying he was seriously ill. The Australian Harness Racing website also has its version.

Connections were too distraught to talk about their former champion today (Thursday).
