Im Themightyquinn - the $3.50 Auckland Cup favourite.

The Gary Hall trained gelding Im Themightyquinn was yesterday (Sunday October 17) announced as the 2009/10 WA Harness Horse of the Year at the 2010 Harness Racing Awards Luncheon at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club.

During the season Im Themightyquinn had 12 starts for six wins, four seconds and one third and stakes of $374,935.

His wins included the Group One Fremantle Cup and second placings to Washakie in the Group One WA Pacing Cup and Has The Answers in the Group One Australian Pacing Championship and a remarkable third placing to Bondy and Karloo Mick in the Group One AG Hunter Cup in Victoria.

In seven head to head clashes with Has The Answers last season Im Themightyquinn held a slight advantage four/three over the course of the season.

Coincidentally, Im Themightyquinn re-appeared in public yesterday with a comfortable win at the Byford Trials rating a moderate 2:03.1 for the 2150 metres but he did cover the final quarter in a blistering 26.3 seconds and beat the 2010 Australian 3yo Filly Pacer of the Year Millwood Meg.

Among the other awards presented yesterday was the 2yo Harness Horse of the Year Award to the Bryan Cousins trained Go West U Terror which won six of his 11 starts including a runaway win in the Group One Pearl Classic and a close-up second to Ohokas Bondy in the Group One Golden Slipper.

The 3yo Harness Horse of the Year Award was presented to the connections of David Hercules whose Group One success came in the Vicbred Super Series final in Victoria after finishing second to Crombie in the Group One WA Derby and winning both the Group Two Western Gateway Pace and Group 3 Caduceus Club Classic.

The State's Leading Trainer Award went to Gary Hall Snr while Chris Lewis took out his 14th State Title as leading driver.
