A $40,000 Pick6 at Cambridge tonight, join us as we try to spot some runners to keep an eye on:
Leg 1: (Race3) – A large trot field to kick off pick6 tonight – On form the McCaffrey/Paynter trained (6) Royal Willie looks tough to roll. Drawn wide of the front row, the 3yo Majestic Son has been gelded and had a small freshen up since his last run on the 5th of Feb. He is teetering on a Jewels start but will be better for the run. He is an anchor for me, but if you are wanting cover then don’t leave out (1) Sapphire Castleton and (12) Southland Reflector.
Safely through the trot, we have another anchor in
Leg 2: (Race4) – The Barry Purdon trained (5) Kimani will start a short priced favourite and looks set to dominate from his barrier draw. The 3yo Bettor’s Delight colt drops out of tough Auckland fields, including the Northern Derby behind Lazarus 3 starts back.
Again if you like cover then (10) Vega Star has been going nicely of late and looks the only chance of upsetting a heavily backed Favourite.
Leg 3: (Race5) – A small but even field of fillies and mares, with Peter Scaife’s runner and his bet of the week selection (1) Party Rage set to start as favourite. Ex Canterbury runner (2) Boundary Row galloped in his first start for Arna Donnelly but with manners is capable of upsetting this bunch, while (5) Pureora Paree could upset them with a good trip.
Leg 4: (Race6) – Another small field here, with (4) Thomas McBride and (7) Hudy Haxwell the two I like, both have been going super lately with Thomas dropping out of Auckland fields he will start a short priced favourite from the front row, but manners are key and Hudy Haxwell will be though to roll.
Leg 5: (Race7) – Again a small compact field this time featuring several first starters. I think we need four runners here, (1) Dreamy Nights, (2) Ideal Flipflop, (3) Freddy Funk and (5) Awesome Dude, it will come down to whoever gets the best trip, although with the advantage of a decent draw and race experience Ideal Flipflop is the most liked.
Leg 6: (Race8) – A junior driver’s race to end the pick6 and race meeting tonight, for C2 – C3 4yo and older pacers it has attracted a small but tidy field. (2) Fizzi Lizzi stands out as a possible anchor for the brave, she went nice last start, and Matt Anderson jumps aboard from a draw that should see her in front early. (6) Miss Daisy out of the Robert Dunn barn has been well supported after some massive performances of late but the wide draw doesn’t help her, while (7) Ambro Courage is expected to blast across the field and if junior driver Mark Johnson was able to pinch a cheap quarter, she could be tough to run down.
