When you think about the term 'old faithful' harness racing owner-driver-trainer Bonnie Rush comes to mind.
If my memory serves me right she's a Plainridge Racecourse original which takes her back to when the track opened in March, 1999.
Lately Bonnie, who has a preference for racing trotters, was in the money five times last week and drove Cathy and Marc Bouthillier's trotter, Molly McGuire to a new lifetime mark of 2:00.3.The Bouthillier's reside in nearby Northborough, Ma.
Born in Ohio, Rush lives in Tiverton, R.I. She's been a part of this business since 1986.
She races a small stable and makes herself available for catch drives.
At age 64 she makes her presence felt at Massachusetts' only harness track. Put her behnd a trotter and with her 'come from behind' driving skills she's a force to be reckoned with.
Plainridge Asistant Paddock Judge Robert Lieberman had high words of praise for Rush. "She's a very nice person and extremely conscientious," he noted.
She holds the distinction of being among the few female drivers who race regularly at pari-mutual tracks.Something she's been doing since s her entrance to this sport 26 years ago.
