The weekend’s action saw legendary breeder, owner, trainer, driver Jean-Pierre Dubois record his 31st win in 102 starts since returning to driving action in France in May. His mounts have earned over 665,000 euros and he has won four graded races since returning as driver.
The most recent wins included victories at Marseille-Borely with Viva Island (4f Goetmals Wood-Island Dream) in 1.13.7kr. The pair scored in a 22,000 euro event over 3000 meters to which the winner was added 50 meters based on life earnings. Viva Island won for the eighth time in 35 outings for earnings in excess of 256,000 euro. She is a half-sister to fast class winners Infinitif 1:54.1 ($916,493) and Not Disturb 1:55.3 ($425,231).
At Paris-Vincennes Dubois won a pair, the first with Udine (5f Coktail Jet-Idylle-Sancho Panca) in 1.13.7kr in an 85,000 euro event over 2100 meters.
He also scored with the two year-old Bassana de Marlau (2f Sam Bourbon-Jessie de Vonnas) in 1.17.4kr over 2200 meters. The purse was 36,000 euro. This filly is by the popular first crop sire Sam Bourbon, campaigned and owned by Dubois, and is a half-sister to the $197,000 winner Quidam des Maj.
