One of last season's star Tasmanian three-year-old pacers Jerrys Jet returned to harness racing with a sensational win in Devonport last night.
Jerrys Jet lined up in a C5-C6 event over 2297 metres in which he drew the outside of the second row from which trainer-driver Rohan Hillier had no option but to allow the gelding to drift back to last.
Poker Storm made the most of the pole position to lead and his trainer-driver Adrian Dugan ensured a solid tempo.
Hillier sent his stable star three-wide to make his move and he was accommodated with a ride home on the back of Dodgermemate.
Poker Storm had plenty to offer when Jerrys Jet cruised alongside him turning for home and looked at one stage that he might cause an upset but the $1.40 favourite knuckled down to his task and edged clear 20 metres from the line.
Jerrys Jet hit the line a metre clear of Jerrys Jet with Dodgermemate nine meters astern.
It was the gelding's first start since July last year.
He and Mister Lenox were the two stand-out three-year-olds last season with Mister Lenox's Tasmanian Derby win enough to give him the edge in three-year-old of the year voting.
Jerrys Jet will be aimed at the $30,000 Raider Stakes for four-year-olds at Devonport next month after which he is most likely to embark on an interstate campaign.
