Classiesistar in one word was 'astonishing'. The rich PGG/Wrightson NZ Yearling Sales 3YO Final worth $225,000 attracted a stunning field of harness racing pacers on New Year's Eve at Alexandra Park but one shone above the pack that being the Nigel McGrath trained colt by Christian Cullen.

Mark Jones could not speak more highly of the colt that had to burn big time off the gate as the Dalgety runners Mighty Flying Mac and A Bit Of A Legend set to soften him up, but Jones was having none of that.

"They tried to keep me in but I had faith in my horse.I had to use him or I would have got none of it. He's as good as I have ever driven. Nigel (McGrath) has done a mighty job with him up here, all week he has been worrying about the gear in order to help him cope with the track. I have the easy job, Nigel deserves all the credit" said a very satisfied Mark Jones.

The race was action packed from go to with Jones and Classiesistar initially getting crossed inside the first 300m by Mighty Flying Mac but when Jones saw the stable mate A Bit Of A Legend on the move to the front he was off and gone to get the lead. From there he simply put a whole in the opposition running away to win by 6 ½ lengths in 2.42.61 for the 2200m mobile. The lead time of 41.2 is rarely matched so to be there at the finish let alone bolt in was one of the best runs ever seen at the "Park".

Cyamach came home strongly from back on the markers for second as did Mexicano but they were never going to get to the winner Clasiesistar.

Super stallion Christian Cullen just reminded breeders yet again that his light is far from dimming.
