Hanover Raceway played host to Pepsi Night and two harness racing divisions of the Alliance Filly Claiming Series Saturday night.
A good crowd came out for their chance to win up to $2,000 dollars in prizes including a Patio Set, BBQ and Lawnmower. In the Pepsi Pace, it was 12 year old Chasin Jiffy, owned by Kim Mahon of Owen Sound that held on for the victory over a fast closing Twin B JJ in 2:00.3.
Chasin Jiffy used his rail advantage to control the pace past the quarter in 29.3 and the half in 1:00.2. The son of Village Jiffy who has 26 lifetime wins continued to lead past the ¾’s in 1:30.3, and just made it home as Twin B JJ was flying to make the finish a close one.
In the Allance Filly Claiming Series. Anamazingdream esa had 2 claims on her and came into the elimination with 4 top 3 finishes in a row. Natasha Day got away 2nd behind Zinfandart and Robert Doyle and the 2 horse stayed that was past the quarter in 29.3 and the half in 1:01.3. Day took the lead by a head at the ¾’s in 1:31.4 and held on for the victory by a nose in 2:01.1.
It was Day’s first victory of the season as a driver in 32 starts for trainer Patrick Shepherd and owner Stephen Morton of Windsor. It was also the 4th win of her Career.
In Division 2, favorite Total Knockout and driver Tyler Moore were quickest off the gate and grabbed the early lead past the quarter in 29 seconds flat. Moore then settled the pace down leading past the half in 1:00.3 and the ¾’s in 1:30.3 holding off all coming in the final quarter to win in 2:00.1. The 10 Fillies will be back next week to battle again with the top finishers advancing to the Alliance Final at Grand River Raceway later this month.
Next Saturday is Molson Mens Night in honour of Fathers Day. Dad’s in attendance can enter to win over $1,000 in prizes including a Corona Deck Chair, Coors Light Coolers, Beach Umbrella’s, and an outdoor Fire Pit. Post time next Saturday June 18th is 7:15pm.
