Jurgen Hanover overcame a slow start to blow by his competition and win the final of the harness racing Bobby Weiss Series for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Wednesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
The race carried a purse of $30,000.
Jurgen Hanover (-Yassi Hanover), who left as the 1-5 favorite from the inside in a field of eight, came into the race having swept the first two legs of the series in authoritative fashion. He got away slowly on the sloppy track in the final, sitting fifth at the start of the back stretch still six lengths away from pacesetter Me And Cinderella.
That’s when driver David Miller turned the favorite loose, and he began picking off horses before blowing by Me And Cinderella in the stretch to win by 2 ¼ lengths in a career-best 1:56. Maximum Credit finished 3rd.
Jurgen Hanover, a 3-year-old colt trained by Donna Marshall, has now won all four of his starts in 2013, and the win pushed his career earnings to $44,613.
