Harness racing trainer Lance Justice cruised into Miracle Mile immortality when his champion pacer Smoken Up won tonight's $500,000 pinnacle sprint at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
Justice joined an elite group of reinsmen when securing his third win in the Grand Circuit event.
And while Smoken Up didn't better his own record when taking out the Group One, the tough gelding held out many challengers when doing it in 1:51.8.
After overcoming an early speed battle with West Australian star Im Themightyquinn, the first quarter was a scintillating 26.7 seconds.
Once crossing to the front Smoken Up then had to fight off another challenge from Franco Jamar before reeling off the final two splits in 27.6 seconds each.
Dubbo Warhorse Karloo Mick put up the fight of his life to finish more than a metre away in second while Im Themightyquinn was close behind in third.
The only other drivers that have achieved this feat are Vic Frost and Tony Herlihy.
Justice is also one of the only mentors to train four Miracle Mile winners. Barry Purdon is the only trainer that has won five.
