Kate Gath will join forces with Ben Yole and Geoffrey Smith during the Australian Female Drivers Championship this Sunday, as Kerryn Manning teams up with five different trainers throughout the competition.
Gath and Manning are Victoria’s representatives at the event in Launceston, which is the feature of a nine-race card in the Apple Isle.
Two female drivers from each state will contest six heats, with the winner to be decided via a point-score system.
Gath has four drives for Yole and two for Smith, while Manning will take the reins of horses prepared by those two trainers as well as Steve Lukac, Kent Rattray and Michael Laugher.
“I’ve been before and it’s really good,” Gath, who has driven the most Group 1 winners of any female driver in Australasia, said last month when selected for the event.
“It’s always good to catch up with the other girls… we get to catch-up and have a little get-together and do what we like doing.”
Manning, who is the winningest female driver in history with more than 4000 victories in the sulky, has also contested the Australian Female Drivers Championship before.
āItās something different to go and do and itās a bit of a day out,ā she said.
āItās great. I do enjoy them.ā
The first of six heats in Launceston is scheduled to go at 5.21pm.
