Harness Racing Australia recently announced that the 2010 Decron Cranbourne Pacing Cup has been officially elevated to Group 1 status This follows a move by the Cranbourne HRC to increase stake money for the event to $100,000 and coincides with a restructuring of Harness Racing Victoria's iconic Victoria Cup Carnival.

In a major boost for the Cranbourne HRC its Cup meeting is to be run on Saturday 11th December as Night One of the SEW Eurodrive Victoria Cup Carnival for 2010.

At the same time, HRV has announced that the $60,000 Group 1 Bill Collins Trotters Mile will be transferred to the Cranbourne meeting making for what should be a bumper night's harness racing.

Cranbourne CEO, David Scott, is understandably ecstatic to have the Club and its Cup meeting incorporated in the Carnival.

"We're delighted to be involved at this level and look forward to assembling superb fields to contest both Group 1 races at our venue. In recent years our Cup meeting has been programmed in the last week of November and as such we have run up against either the Miracle Mile or the Truer Memorial. This scheduling gives us every opportunity to attract all those horses en route to the Victoria Cup".

While the 2010 running of the Decron Cranbourne Pacing Cup looks set to attract an outstanding field, the 2009 edition provided one of the great talking points of the season with Bettors Strike and Ohoka Nevada dead-heating for first place.

On race night, Bettor's Strike was adjudged the winner of the Cup by the barest possible margin. This result was subsequently challenged by the connections of Ohoka Nevada and stewards ultimately adjudicated a dead heat.
