It’s leg two of the Fifth Avenue and North Avenue series on Thursday night (August 18) at Maywood Park and both summer series will have two larger-than-normal fields on the 11-race card.
Nineteen horses were entered for the Fifth Avenue, a series for horses without five wins or $30,000 lifetime as of July 15, 2005 that have raced with a $12,500 claiming tag or lower.
The third race first division has nine pacers with early favouritism divided between opening leg winners How About You (3-1) and Snuff Box (4-1, Dale Hiteman), along with No Fear Nuke (7-2, Pat Berry), who will leave from posts one, three and five, respectively.
The tenth race second split has ten horses with post nine Clay Hill King Pin, one of two horses starting in the second tier, the 3-1 early favourite after dropping a nose decision one week ago.
Tony Morgan will drive both How About You and Clay Hill King Pin for co-owner and trainer Dave McCaffrey.
With 20 horses passing the entry box for the North Avenue, a series for pacers that have started in an $8000 claimer or less since July 1 of this year, a pair of 10-horse fields were carded and will go as races eight and eleven.
First round winner and former Windy City Pace champion (1998) Take Down The Flag (Tim Tetrick) and beaten opening leg favorite Melt Down (Tony Morgan) are the co-favourites at 5-2 and 3-1 first flash odds, in that order for the eighth race.
The wide-open second North Avenue division is headed up by Albacrossnuke (3-1, Tim Tetrick), Shiraz Matazz N (7-2, Tony Morgan), Run With The Wind (4-1, Mike Oosting).
After going winless in his first three season starts John Bernard’s Albacrossanuke has rattled off 6 wins in 9 starts since joining the Darcy Pletcher Stable.
This will be the 6-Year-Old’s second season start at Maywood Park. He did win on the circuit’s half-miler last year in 1.55.4.
