A horse in New Zealand has made one of the better belated debuts you will hear about, reigning supreme at her first harness racing outing at the ripe old age of 10.
The mare, Mrs Beau K, was making her racing debut in an event for pacers at the Westport harness meeting on Boxing Day, taking on rivals mainly aged 4-5 along with a couple of 3YO fillies.
But the daughter of Sands A Flyin showed her age was just a number, as she swept down the outside to claim victory on debut in the 2000m race at the grass-track meeting.
Mrs Beau K ($26) thwarted four-year-old mare, and fellow debutant, Tas Girl Bromac, who was sent around as the $1.80 favourite in the event.
The winner was prepared and piloted by trainer / driver Trevor Walsh.
