After winning the Junior Drivers’ Championship at Addington in his first season as a Junior Driver some four seasons ago, North Island reinsman Simon Lawson repeated the dose tonight (Thursday July 4th) at Addington Raceway.

After coming from the rear to win the first heat on capable trotter Sol Invictus, Lawson had a slight set back when eighth on Tuscaloosa in heat two, before rounding out proceedings with a third on Sobek, which gave him enough points to claim a narrow victory over Mitchell Kerr, Roydon Downey and Brad Williamson in the overall championship.

The other two heat winners were Comenche, who was an emphatic 12 & length winner with the earplugs still firmly in for Brad Williamson, and Bushrod, who was a game winner for Andre Poutama.

Kerr and Downey both went winless but a string of placings saw them claim the silver and bronze medals.

"It's my last season as a Junior Driver, so it is good to go out with a bang," said Lawson. "Overall it has been a great season, and I've had a lot of support from both Geoff Small and Steven Reid which has been great."

"Now I'm just hopeful I can continue this sort of form when I become an open driver next season," Lawson added.
