Alexandra Park harness racing fans probably saw the 2011 Inter Dominion Trotting Champion in action tonight (Friday April 1) - even seven days out from the $250,000 grand final. The way Let Me Thru won his second consecutive heat it's going to be hard to see the Victorian squaregaiter get beaten.
In fact getting beaten is one thing the 5-year-oldgelding has not experienced for some time now. Tonight his half neck and 1-1/4 length victory over Springbank Richard and I Can Doosit was his 10th in a row.
Driver Chris Lang Jr. knows he will be driving a very hot favourite in next week’s final.
“He’s really wound up now and I’m looking forward to next Friday. He’s a real champion. Obviously I’d still like to draw good next week, somewhere between one and five. The rest can take care of itself,” Lang junior said.
Let Me Thru stormed home from an impossible position on the turn to win the 2200m mobile in 2:44.9 (mile rate: 2:00.7) with final 800m and 400m sprints of 58.8 and 29.4 seconds.
“You can’t call me a liar - I said he was better with a sit. I couldn’t be happier with where he is at the moment. I wouldn’t want to be on anything else in Final,” a confident Lang junior said.
Let Me Thru has now won19 of his 26 starts and just over $500,000 in career stakes.
The win was some compensation for trainer Chris Lang who was forced to scratch defending champion’s Gift after tying up in a warm-up earlier this evening.
