Local harness racing owners Vince and Maria Sanzaro were "over the moon" after winning the $25,000 SEW-Eurodrive Geelong Rocket at Beckley Park Geelong on Saturday with former Kiwi 7-Y-0 gelding Lets Slash An Burn.

Raced under the banner of Sanzaro Racing Pty Ltd, Lets Slash An Burn (Christian Cullen/Jaz Atom) trained at nearby Bannockburn by Geoff Webster and driven by stable reinsman Greg Sugars worked early from gate four, before obtaining cover at the bell when bonnie mare Make Mine Cullen which had been wide, crossed to park outside the pacemaker Our White Knight.

Taken wide on straightening, Lets Slash An Burn ran home strongly to score in a rate of 1-55.3 (last half 57.9 – quarter 28.7) over Make Mine Cullen to give Christian Cullen the quinella, with the favourite Melpark Major being the run of the race in finishing third, coming from last at the bell.

Two squaregaiting events supplemented the Geelong program – the SEW Galaxy Trotters Final for T0 & T1 class over 2100 metres for those that qualified in the heats held at TP Melton on September 26 and the SEW Shooting Stars Trotters Mobile for T2 to T5 class over 1609 metres.

Wind Cries Maori/Even Pockets 6-Y-0 gelding Maoris Pocket chalked up both the Galaxy heat and final with a faultless display in both races.

Part-owned and trained by Carisbrook’s Alan Dunsmuir, Maoris Pocket driven by stable reinsman John Caldow was immediately sent forward from the extreme draw as the starter released the field, assuming control from Reign Of Darkness within a lap.

Always coasting, Maoris Pocket toyed with his rivals in accounting for Frosty Vale (three back the markers) and Reign Of Darkness in a 2-03 mile rate, recording his 5th victory in 30 outings.

Five year old Wind Cries Maori/Clefairy gelding Makemcry Maori trained at Kialla by Dean Pattison and driven by Leigh Sutton, led throughout from gate two in the Shooting Stars, rating 2-01.4 to score from Lillingstonelovell which looked to have his measure when three wide on the final bend, with Ostensibly coming from last for third.
