Some people say that the majority of the really good race horses have an attitude or act as if they know they are or were good at racing.
Diana Ferguson explains this is the case with champion trotter Stent.
“He was a very good race horse so he sort of just does what he wants, he keeps the other horses in check.”
Stent who is now 10 years old and resides in Timaru won 30 races including the Anzac Cup, Rowe Cup and the NZ Trotting FFA.
He was owned by the Bowdens and also Trevor Casey who’s partner Kate organised for Stent to be rehomed to Diana.
Diana has owned Stent for over a year where he is living a life of luxury.
Diana describes Stent as a,“bit of an old paddock mate, who loves to rip his cover.”
Stent has been ridden a few times but hasn’t taken to being ridden in the same way he did as a race horse.
“He’s very happy for you to sit on him but if you try and make him walk he will bite your legs,” explained Diana.
Diana loves Stent’s character and loves having him around the paddock.
Eventually she would like to show Stent and said he will always have a home with her.
