With the 2105/2016 harness racing season drawing to a close, the Young Harness Racing Club will conduct their final meeting of the season on Friday, August 26.
On the bigger picture, state drivers and trainers have again excelled with some astonishing results that would be the envy of many national participants.
One very strong supporter of the Young club, Bathurst trainer Steve Turnbull, has again finished among the top money earners of the prize money tree with a massive 148 wins (as at August 10) and a collective return of $1.32mil in prizemoney for the 2015/2016 season.
Belinda McCarthy with less wins (139) has collected $1.7 mil in prizemoney and Kerry Ann Turner has pocketed $1.3 mil for her band of supporters.
Another regular visitor, Amanda Turnull, although spending a large amount of time in Victoria, has won 111 races and trained 55 winners. This has seen a return of $1.04mil as a driver and half a million as a trainer, not bad pickings for a young lady from Bathurst.
Amanda was also the leading female driver with 111 wins from 399 starters and a total of 144 placings and 55 winners as a trainer in her own right.
Georges Plains trainer Bernie Hewitt has landed in excess of $500,000 from his 66 wins as a trainer with a total of just under 200 minor placings throughout the season.
The list also shows that local trainer, driver Jason Grimson has faired well over the past 12 months with a total of 38 wins to his credit and a prizemoney haul of $276,554.
His greatest moment of triumph was of course at Bathurst when he drove the winner of the 2016 Gold Tiarra, Don't Think Twice to a convincing win. It is reliably reported that Don't Think Twice is about to return to the training barn following a well deserved spell.
