Longwarry trotter Johncarlo was on his best behaviour when winning at Cranbourne last Wednesday night. But the victory caught many harness racing punters off guard - Johncarlo started at odds of $32.70 on the TAB.

The Lee Evison trained squaregaiter has had 23 starts, but Wednesday's victory was only his second, following a maiden win at Warragul in June last year.

Johncarlo is prone to making mistakes in his races, but has decent ability when he puts it all together.

That occurred on Wednesday, when Johncarlo turned in a faultless trotting exhibition to defeat fellow local Commander Rama, who ensured a Gippsland quinella.

Johncarlo is a five-year-old gelding and was driven by talented local reinsman Matt Cormick.
