DOVER, Del.—- Tim Tetrick drove Maestro Blue Chip to his 13th harness racing victory of a $238,000 winning season to win the $20,000 Open Handicap trot at Dover Downs on Wednesday, Nov. 2. Purchased a year ago by Richard Pollucci, the handsome son of Credit Winner-Up Front Holsey raced off-the-pace until rushing to the lead on the final turn and sped to a 1:54.1 score. Celebrity Pegasus (Art Stafford Jr.) closed well to finish second in front of mid-Western invader Il Mago (Vic Kirby).
Maestro Blue Chip has now earned $316,673 lifetime. The win was third of four during the day for Tetrick.
The fast Delaware-bred Go Byem made a big move on the backstretch to take the lead and Jim Morand drove his fourth winner on the card coasting to a 1:54.1 decision in $15,000 3,4&5-Year-Old Winners-Over trot secondary feature. Delbert Cain and Nanticoke Racing own the Impel Hanover-Go Sassy Go gelding who won for the third time in 2016. Uva Hanover (Tetrick) was the early leader and finished second. Royal Becca J (Jack Parker Jr.) took third.
Owner Pollucci, trainer King and driver Tetrick combined to win the $12,000 conditioned trot with Frost Free Hanover, also with a 1:54.1 clocking for his third win of the year. Steel Reserve (Kirby) and Tirade Hanover (Corey Callahan) pick up second and third money respectively.
In addition to four wins by Jim Morand and three for Tim Tetrick, driver Vic Kirby and trainers Les Givens and Leigh Raymer had doubles.
FOUR LUCRATIVE MATRONS, FOUR DSBF 1ST LEG PRELIMS THURSDAY
It’s a stakes day Thursday, Nov.3 at Dover Downs. Four rich Matron Stakes for two-year-olds top the program. The Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) also gets underway with its freshman pace, 1st of 2 legs, split into four $20,000 divisions. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
Story Inc.’s Devious Man with Andy Miller, the New York Sire Stakes champion, a winner of seven races and $308,233 is the one to beat in the Matron colt pace. Money Macintosh, also owned by Story Inc. and trained by Julie Miller, heads the opposition but must overcome post 8. Trainer Ron Burke has two starters. Karr, Piatt, Weaver Bruscemi and Burke Racing’s Southwind Cobra and Yannick Gingras and Snowstorm Hanover, fresh from the Breeders Crown with Matt Kakaley driving for Weaver Bruscemi, Baldachino, Colluri and Burke Racing.
Bill Wiswell and M&L Of Delaware’s $363,990-winner Fine Tuned Lady drew the rail with Corey Callahan in the $148,700 Matron frosh filly trot. Robert Key’s homebred Winter Sweet Frost, driven by Scott Zeron, and Temple Ruins (GIngras) racing for Yanek, Strieber, Weaver Bruscemi and Burke Racing lead the opposition.
The $170,000 Matron Filly Trot is led by a pair for Ken Jacobs owned from the Linda Toscano Stable. Planet Rock (Tim Tetrick) leaves from the outside post 8 while Robin J (David Miller) drew post 4.
The richest Matron for two-year-old colt pacers features Howard Taylor, Ed Gold, Abe Basen and Tom Lazzaro’s Every Way Out (Tim Tetrick) and Rock N Tony (Trace Tetrick).
KDK Standardbreds’ Almost Cut My Hair (Kevin Switzer Jr.), seeks to rebound after his first loss after six consecutive wins, in one of three $20,000 DSBF 1st leg prelims. George Teague Inc.’s Henry The Dragon (Montrell Teague), winner of the recent Harrington DSBF $100,000 Final, put a three-win streak on the line in another $20,000 prelim.
Another Teague homebred contender, Daylen (M. Teague) and Tina and Brian Clark’s Automatic Dragon (Vic Kirby) tangle in the first $20,000 DSBF division. A third Teague owned contender Daiymir (M.Teague) is the one to beat in the second section.
There is no live racing on Sunday, Nov. 6.
Next Thursday, the four lucrative Matron Stakes for three-year-olds, plus the 2nd leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund freshman stakes are the features.
Friday and Saturday are dark days at Dover Downs. No racing this Sunday. November Sunday racing will be featured onNov. 13 and 20 with a post time of 5:30 p.m. Sundays. Weekday racing, Monday through Thursday, racing begins at 4:30 p.m.
