Young Globe Derby traineris riding a quest of a wave in recent weeks with success coming via a 7 year old mare Alongthehighway which has been a model of consistency this season, and an 11 year old claimer Campbell Wallace whose two starts for McGuire have resulted in a win and close up second.
With seven horses in work himself, Maguire also helps leading reinsmenwho is setting up his own stables at ’s old property.
Alongthehighway who Maguire races in partnership with his girlfriend Lucy McDonald has won twice already this season and has had three other placings Campbell Wallace at his first start for the stable who won a claimer at Betezy Park Globe Derby last Saturday then backed up on Monday with a second to Mister Commitment. Campbell Wallace has always shown above average ability but has been plagued by leg injuries.
“I was given him to swim and he has thrived on it “Maguire said, “hopefully he stays sound and can win a few more, he is raced by some mates of mine” he added.
Maguire has high hopes for a3 year old and a 2 year old “the 3 year old was running around 2.6 so we tipped him our hopefully he will get to the races this time in” Maguire commented.
This 22 year old trainer who has been in harness racing all his life started with the pony trots as about a six year old till around 15 when he got his driver’s license soon after, he only started training last season and is quickly building a reputation as a trainer.
“I concentrate on training now I enjoy it more than freelance driving” he went on to say. Maguire was a talent junior driver prior
to taking up training on a full time bases.
At just 22 year of age Matt Maguire has the future at his feet and with success bring new clients and better quality horses no doubt he is one of South Australia's best young talented up and coming trainers.
