CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – It was all systems go for Saulsbrook Ocean as she stamped herself right into the harness racing record books Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as part of Gold Cup and Saucer Week racing.
Dale Spence was in the race bike behind Saulsbrook Ocean as the daughter of Westwardho Hanover claimed her $9,500 Atlantic Sires Stakes three-year-old pacing filly A-division in 1:54.1. The victory was a new track record for three-year-old fillies and cemented Saulsbrook Ocean as the fastest Maritime bred three-year-old ever to win on the East Coast. Joe Baxter trains the winning filly for Nova Scotia owners Saulsbrook Stables, Jennifer Baxter and Michael McKenzie.
Dustylane Zambucca (Driven by Corey MacPherson) was second in the record mile with Ubettimagoodone (Kenny Arsenault) finishing third.
Watch Me Dance recorded a new personal best in another $9,500 A-division with a 1:55.4 front-end victory for driver Jason Hughes, trainer and co-owner Stephen Quinn and co-owners John Quinn of Charlottetown and Ozzie MacKay of Moncton, N.B. Bellafornow (Clare MacDonald) rallied for second ahead of Tobins Choice (Gilles Barrieau).
Woodmere Skyroller controlled the fractions in her $9,500 Atlantic Sires Stakes split to win over Red Dirt Star (Barrieau) and Ms Moyse (Adam Merner). Brodie MacPhee was at the controls of the Kevin MacLean trained Woodmere Skyroller for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford.
Barrieau made three trips to the winner's circle on the afternoon card aboard Cowgirlinthesand (1:58.4) for trainer Jeff Lilley, JJ Gracie (1:56.2) from his own stable and Joes Beauty (1:58.1) from the Stephen Mason stable of Saint John, N.B.
