Stallion Station, one of Australasia's newest and most progressive harness racing stallion operators has employed harness racing 'Hall-of-Famer', Bob McArdle as an Australia and New Zealand director. He will also be involved with sales.

The company's sales and marketing manager and former Australian test cricketer, Les Joslin said the appointment was made in late July. Joslin admits it's a major coup for his company. He said McArdle had raised the standard of breeding and racing in New Zealand, which had set him apart.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have a man of Bob's stature on board. His knowledge of the industry is unprecedented. This is an absolute coup considering his standing in New Zealand, Australia and North America. He will really put our stallions out there," Joslin said.

McArdle and his brother John became more involved as bloodstock agents, firstly in thoroughbreds but widening their interests into standardbreds when the American market opened up in the 1960's.

They had considerable success at all levels from stars to maidens in the tough American business regime and built up valuable contacts over several years. There have been numerous success stories with his exports - one of the most recent Attorney General - at one time the fastest horse ever bred in this country and now is a sire for Stallion Station.

McArdle was a founding partner of Nevele R Stud but more recently he promoted his own brand the Bromac (brothers McArdle) breed and still breeds yearlings for sale at his Bromac Lodge.

Last year McArdle was inducted into the Addington Hall of Fame and also named New Zealand Harness Racing Personality of the Year and the Breeder of the Year. He joins Jack Carmichael and the late legends Maurice Holmes, Derek Jones and his co-founder at Nevele R Stud, the late Wayne Francis on the honours board.

McArdle was unavailable for comment when contacted by Harnesslink this week but he obviously believes in the Stallion Station brand and what the company strives for. Joslin agreed.

Bob is a very busy man but obviously sees us as a young progressive company going places. We are getting quality stock and I think Bob realises this. That is why we have made him company director. I can't tell you enough just how thrilled we are to have him on board," Joslin said.

Stallion Station, which is just four years old, operates out of Australia and New Zealand. Its world class stallions include Mach Three, Santanna Blue Chip, Courage Under Fire, Attorney General, Major In Art, Majestic Son, Pacific Fella, Armbro Invasion, Royal Mattjesty, Riverboat King, Righteous Hanover, Safari, Allamerican Theory, Town Champion and Muscle Mass.
